Tuesday night, The Cape Fear Softball team took on the J.H. Rose Rampants for the first round of the state playoffs. The Colts won 12-7, which sent them to round 2 of the playoffs.
The Colts had a rough start and were kept off the scoreboard until the third inning. To make matters worse, the girls found themselves down 6-0 going into the 3rd.
After a few encouraging words from Head Coach Jeff McPhail, the Ladies found some energy and got it going. Kloe Watts led off the bottom of the third with a walk, which put a runner on for Amari Adams who singled which put two on. Allie Dawson loaded the bases up for Kolasa who drove in 2 runs. Davis then singled, bringing in another run. Eason had a sacrifice fly, tacking on yet another run, giving her an RBI. Karalina Tomasic also had an RBI from her single. The rally was on, and the Colts batted around the order, bringing Watts back up again. She answered with a single, bringing in the tying run to put the Colts back in the game.
“We fought back and never gave up! ON TO ROUND 2 !!” said Coach McPhail.
The Colts just kept finding different ways to score and put pressure on the Rampants defense. Leaving the third the Colts had tied it up 6-6. They didn’t stop there though.
After a quick 3 outs for the top of the fourth, the ladies kept the bats going and managed to put two more runs on the board. The Colts were ahead for the first time in the game.
The ladies didn’t have the cleanest defense early on, but they tightened things up after the shaky start. They managed to limit Rose to only one more run the rest of the game. Despite their defensive struggles early on, their performance at the plate more than made up for it.
The Colts managed four more runs in the bottom of the sixth, making the final score 12-7. This win moves the Colts on to the second round of the state playoffs. Come support the team as they will have another home game against Southern Alamance Friday night for round two of the state playoffs.
