Friday Night the Cape Fear Softball Team played round 2 of the state playoffs against Southern Alamance. The Colts showcased some serious offensive firepower at the plate, ending the game in 5 innings with a 17-7 victory.

Southern Alamance made their mark scoring 2 in the first inning, but that didn’t stop the Colts. The ladies came out and scored 6 in the bottom of the first to get on the board. The second inning was a little rocky for the Colts, allowing 5 runs to cross the plate.

This put the ladies down 7-6 midway through the second inning. The Colts were not to be denied, though.

The Colts couldn’t be stopped at the plate and many players had a significant performance. Kalilah De La Cruz batted .800 with 3 RBIs and a triple. Amari Adams and Addie Davis both batted .667. Adams had her first 2 doubles of the year. The game ended in a walkoff grandslam hit by Davis.

“Hitting a walkoff grandslam when I just hit my first home run last week shows how someone can get the job done when needed,” said Davis.

The Colts had some little mistakes on the defensive end with 3 errors and one unearned run. Pitching was split between Karalina Tomasic and McKinley Kolasa. The two pitchers combined for 5 strikeouts and 6 hits on the night.

“Going to round 3 of the playoffs when it was said that we were only going to win 10 games this whole season is an accomplishment in itself no matter what happens next,” said Senior sensation Allie Dawson.

The Colts are scheduled to travel a few counties over to take on the Fighting Scots of Scotland High School for round 3 of the state playoffs tonight at 7 PM. Show your support for the Colts at Scotland High School!
