The Cape Fear Colts Girls tennis team is ready to serve up a new season this year! The team’s lineup for this season are First Court Dani Fick, Second Court Hailey Ross, Third Ezra Pajarilla, Fourth Alissa Fulgum, Fifth Haylee Hall, and Aslyn Autry on Court Six. The doubles teams are Dani Fick & Ezra Pajarilla, Alissa Fulgum & Hailey Ross or Haylee Hall, and Emma Stephens & Haylee Hall or Aslyn Autry.

This year Colts have welcomed a new coach, Coach Dion. This is Coach Dion’s first year teaching at Cape Fear High School, and she is very excited for what the school year brings.

Coach Dion played tennis all through high school, and she was a coach for 2 years for a special olympics soccer team. Coach Dion’s philosophy is to make sure all the players stay hydrated. Hydration is extremely important especially during the hot seasons while doing physical activities.

“I am excited to see the girls grow and become better players throughout the season,” said Coach Dion.

The Lady Colts had a match on the 21st and finished with a clean sweep! All courts came out on top and had a finish of 9-0 as a team against Jack Britt. Dani Fick won 6-0 in both sets 1 & 2, and won 8-2 in doubles with Ezra Pajarilla.

On August 27th the Colts had a close match against Lumberton, but they came up just short, losing 4-5. The Colts played with full dedication and optimism throughout the match, showing the grit and determination that has become the standard for the tennis team.

“It’s a great environment with no drama and great coaches,” said Haylee Hall.

Aslyn Autry had a great singles match, winning 6-1 in the first set and 6-3 in the second. Cape Fear’s top doubles court also won 8-5 in the first set.

The next match for the lady Colts will be away on September 3rd against Purnell Swett at 4pm. Make sure to be there to support our Lady Colts and show your Colt pride!
