To round out the month of August, Cape Fear went head to head with the 71st Falcons. The game had its fair share of challenges, and it certainly tested the strength of the Colts. Unfortunately, the Colts did not come away with a win, but instead left with determination and drive to capture a win next game.

The Colts have yet to start Conference play, which won’t begin until week five. So for now, this loss won’t play into their Conference record.

The game started fast for the Colts, as Senior Linebacker Aydin Leonard scored in the first quarter on a fumble recovered in the endzone for a Touchdown. Sadly, this was the only scoring to happen for Cape Fear.

“I just come with the mentality that if you come to the hole, you’re going to get smacked. You are not going to touch my quarterback. If I’m going to get the ball, I am going to run you over. It’s the mentality that I am not going to get ran over,” said Leonard.

His aggressive style on the field, as well as iron-sharpens-iron mentality, can only explain why Leonard is a powerful player each night under the lights for the Colts.

Leonard also gives credit where credit is due. Since he had the only scoring play during the 71st game, he shared that he couldn’t do it on his own.

“I have to shout out Darren Logan. He was the one who really helped me get that touchdown. He took down two blockers in the endzone, so if it wasn’t for him we probably wouldn’t have that touchdown,” said Leonard.

The Colts made a strong effort to hold the Falcons, and to show improvement from last year’s score. They did just that. Despite not being a Colt win, there were still applauddable moments from our boys in the Blue and Gold.

Senior Wide Receiver Chosen Wynn had 61 receiving yards and 4 receptions. This type of momentum from Wynn is promising for the Colts, and it is certain that this aggressive playing style in the endzone will show up on the scoreboard in games to come.

“I’m locked in for Friday. My plan is to stay aggressive, stay alert, and give my all on every play. If I do my job and keep the energy up, I know it’ll put us in a great position to come out with the win as a team,” said Wynn.

Senior Quarterback Geronimo Sanchez went 7 for 21 passing for a total of 180 yards and one interception. He was also the leading rusher for the Colts, running the ball for 138 yards on 21 carries. While the Senior Quarterback was able to get the ball moving down the field, the Colts were unable to execute enough plays to get into the end zone.

The Colts next match up is this Friday, September 5th at the Stable where the they will take on the Jack Britt Buccaneers. Both teams enter with a 1-1 record and are ready to battle it out. This is also a non-conference match up, but the Colts are ready for the opportunity to take over the 910.
