On Tuesday September 2nd, the Cape Fear Girls Golf team played their first match at Pinecrest Country Club.
We’re here to take a deeper dive with what went into their strategies and new goals for this upcoming season. The team is looking forward to cutting down the strokes and playing to their best potential.
The greens were fast, and it was a windy day, which caused some struggles especially at a course as tough as Pinecrest. The course had several hazards with water, trees and lots of hills, which kept most of the field from low scores.
As they prepared for this match, the girls worked hard to ensure a good round. They have put in several weeks of practice at Baywood Country Club, their home course.
The girls took the course ready to play. They posted a team score of 304, which was good for 4th place overall against 7 teams. Scoring for the Colts were Freshman Sarah Eavenson with a 92, Sophomore Holli Bunce with a 105, and Junior Saylor Drose with a 107.
“I think I did okay, I feel like I could make more putts and hit more fairways but it’s just the first match so there is a lot more time to improve! I love our team and I’m excited to see what we will accomplish this season!” said Eavenson.
Saylor Drose is returning to the team after a solid sophomore year for the Colts. Her 107 rounded out the scoring for Cape Fear.
“I think I can improve on taking my time and not rushing into playing. I need to make everything smoother while working on my strokes and swings. Mainly, not worrying about the people I’m up against and focusing on my game,” said Drose.
We’re excited to see all the talent on the course, and Tuesday was only the beginning!
Next week, the ladies will host a home match at Baywood Golf Club. Come out and support our Lady Colts!
