On Wednesday September 10th, the Cape Fear Colts ran at James L Morgan Recreation Complex hosted by Scotland County for the first time ever. The cooler temperatures and cloudy weather made it a perfect day for the Colts to break their personal records (PR’s). This was an amazing meet for all of the Colts with everyone doing better than they did at their last meet.
“Wednesday was an ideal day for a run, it was a gorgeous weather day, the course was one of the best one we’ve seen, and our athletes didn’t let us down. The team had a huge amount of PR’s. The boys did what they usually do and dominated. The ladies pulled together and had the best performance of the season and also secured the win,” said Coach Jason Demchock.
The boys finished 1st overall out of 5 teams with a score of 22. We had a total of 11 runners this week with 5 placing in the top 10. Chris Shick placed 1st with a time of 17:49; Just seconds later Collin Shick finished 2nd in a time of 17:53 and Kayden Giles came 3rd with a time of 18:25. Once again the Colts finished back to back to back. We had many runners push themselves to break their PR’s on the course.
“The team raced very well on Wednesday and so did I. A lot of the runners on the team were able to break their PR’s and set new ones,” said Collin.
The girls finished 1st overall out of 4 teams with a score of 38. We had a total of 6 runners this week with 2 placing in the top 10. Keziah Chambers was the first to finish for the Colts placing 2nd with a time of 22:05. Amelia Osornio was the next to finish placing 7th with a time of 24:45, followed by Shaddai Martell who placed 12th with a time of 26:09. The girls rose to the challenge and took home a 1st place win.
“I felt really good while I was running and I’m so proud of my teammates. That race made me really confident for the rest of my first season of cross country and I’m excited to see how far I can push myself,” said Keziah.
This was such a phenomenal race for the Colts, the beautiful weather and course was perfect for an amazing run. All of the Colts took advantage of these conditions and were able to break their PR’s. The Colts next meet will be held home at Cape Fear High school on September 17th, starting at 4:30. Come out and cheer on your Colts!
