The Girls Tennis Team had two outstanding matches this week. On September 8th, they played against the Grays Creek Bears, winning 6-2. Following that, on Wednesday, September 10th, they had a tough match up at Home against the Terry Sandford Bulldogs, losing 9-0.

While at Grays Creek, the victory Cape Fear bagged put the Colts season record at 4 team wins and 2 losses (as a whole). The match opened with a fierce display from both sides. Grays Creek came out aggressive, pushing the Colts to play defensively. The Colts rose to the occasion, playing with wisdom and strategy.

“Singles is all about confidence and technique,” said Dani Fick.

During singles play, our first court player, Senior Dani Fick, delivered a strong performance. Dani won both of her sets 6-4 and 6-2 with consistent baseline play and solid serves. Right behind her on court two, Hailey Ross followed up with an impressive victory in both sets 6-3, 6-2 with confident strokes and consistent hits. Overall our Lady Colts singles had a great turnout, and won five out of the six matches. This gave the Colts an early lead in the match, setting the tone for the rest of the afternoon leading them into doubles with confidence.

In doubles play, the Colts continued their strong performance with solid teamwork across all 3 courts. On court one, Dani Fick and Ezra Pajarilla had a difficult battle and put up a good fight but ultimately fell behind. Our second court had a hard fought tie, both teams showed great teamwork, communication, and solid performance under pressure. Although no clear winner emerged, the match showed Hailey Ross’ and Alissa Fulgham’s skills and ability to work together. Lastly, in court three Emma Stephens and Haylee Hall took control of the court and won 8-4 in the first set. They had great chemistry on the court and they kept their opponents under an unrecoverable pressure.

Later in the week, the Lady Colts had a very formidable match against the Terry Sanford Bulldogs. Despite the final score, the Colts showed resilience and determination throughout, battling through tough sets. Although the Colts came up short, the experience provided valuable lessons and also highlighted areas to build as they continue to grow as a team throughout the season. Our Lady Colts Tennis Team worked very hard and displayed good sportsmanship, representing Cape Fear Highschool with pride.

Come support your Lady Colts Tennis team at the next match! We hope to see you at Scotland High school on Monday, September 15th. We are honored by our Girls Tennis Team, and wish them the best of luck on their next match. Go Colts! Beat the Scots!
