On Wednesday September 17th, the Cape Fear Cross Country team ran at home on a familiar course. The flat terrain and the home advantage gave the Colts a great upper hand to continue to crush their personal records (PR’s). It was a terrific meet for all of the Colts, and with only a few more conference meets left, the Colts are continuing to progress at a beautiful rate.

“The boys ran another fast and competitive race this week with many seeing PR’s. We sat down as a team and looked at conference standings, regional standings, and created a plan so they can continue to move up in standings and clinch a spot at states,” said Coach Jackie Demchock.

The boys finished 1st overall with a score of 22 points. We had a total of 8 runners, with 5 placing in the top 10. Chris Shick came 1st with a time of 17:46, followed by Collin Shick who came 2nd with a time of 17:46. There was only .56 milliseconds between them. Kayden Giles came 3rd with a time of 18:24. The boys once again rose up to the challenge and prevailed.

“I felt like it was very hot, the heat was definitely pushing me. I think the team did well and we all had a good kick at the end of the race,” said Kayden Giles.

“This week the girls showed a lot of improvement with many getting PR’s. The loss of this meet by 2 points was tough. We met, looked at how we ran and where we needed to make improvements. I am confident with some changes we can start moving up in our group placements,” said Coach Jackie.

The girls finished 2nd with a score of 41. We had 7 runners with 2 placing in the top 10. Keziah Chambers placed 3rd overall with a time of 22:00. Shortly after, Amelia Osornio placed 5th with a time of 23:54. Venna Cokor was the next to finish for the Colts placing 14th with a time of 27:00.  This meet was a great way for the girls to try and push themselves even further than before.

“It went well for me. Though I didn’t PR, I was about 10 seconds off, and I am seeing improvement so I’m  confident in my strategies. Hopefully Saturday I can set a new PR,” said Venna Cokor.

This was a perfect race for the Colts, The nice breeze and flat course was a great addition to the meet. All of the runners pushed themselves to the limits ensuring they would do great. The Colts next race will be the Adidas Cross Country Challenge at WakeMed Soccer Complex up in Cary on Saturday the 20th. Come and Support your runners!
