The Cape Fear Tennis Team had an impressive week of competition. On Monday, the Lady Colts started their week at home against Scotland High School where they secured their third clean sweep of the season! They dominated the Scots with a 9-0 victory. Wednesday, the team had another showdown and fought hard for a narrow 5-4 win over the Pirates away at Lumberton High School.
Monday the Colts played at home against Scotland High School. The teams single matches had a flawless performance, distinctively winning each one. At court one, Senior Dani Fick won both sets, 6-1 and 6-0. Sophomore Ezra Pajarilla won set one 6-0 and set two 6-3 at court two. Over on court three, Junior Alissa Fulgham won both sets finishing 6-1 and 6-3. Finishing set one 6-2 and set two 6-1 was Junior Haylee Hall at court four. The Colts had another win at court five where Junior Aslyn Autry had a tight first set, winning 6-4 and 6-2 in the second. Lastly, on Court six Junior, Emma Stephens won both of her sets, finishing 6-1 and 6-2.
The Colts didn’t just stop after singles, the doubles matches earned the Colts more victories, with 3 solid wins from each duo. At Court One doubles partners were Senior Hailey Ross and Sophomore Ezra Pajarilla. These Lady Colts had a clean and easy win, ending after the first set with an 8-0 score. Hailey and Ezra had aggressive net play and excellent communication throughout the match.
On Court Two doubles partners, Senior Dani Fick and Junior Alissa Fulgham had a complete shutout. They had amazing teamwork and focus, deservingly winning 8-0 with great precision. Playing at court three were doubles partners, Junior Emma Stephens and Hailey Hall, with their quick reflexes and intelligent court positioning, they came out with a win of 8-2 in their first set.

On Wednesday, the Colts had a closely contested match away at Lumberton. Both the Pirates and the Colts gave their all and had tight matches. Ultimately, the Colts brought home a well deserved 5-4 victory.
During single matches the Colts had a hard confrontation, tying 3-3. At court one, Dani Fick had a dominating win against Charley Whitney from Lumberton. Dani won both sets, 6-2 and 6-4. Hailey Ross at court two had an overpowering win with both of her sets, 6-3 and 6-2. At court six Aslyn Autry brought in another win, 6-2 and 6-3 against Lemeshea Love. Our Lady Colts battled fiercely throughout these singles matches, helping prevail in doubles.
The Lady Colts owned the court in doubles, and had complete dominance against the Pirates. Hailey Ross and Ezra Pajarilla at court one, went against Lumberton’s court one and court three players finishing with a 8-5 victory in the very first set. They took the court with intensity and momentum. The court two duo includes Dani Fick and Alissa Fulgham, they outplayed their opponents with flawless teamwork and grit, beating the pirates 8-4. Cape Fears doubles teams had constant pressure on the Lumberton Pirates with quick hands and footwork.
“I think this season is going pretty well! I feel like we are constantly improving and I’m super excited to see where these next matches take us!” said Alissa Fulgham.
Put on your blue and gold and get ready to cheer on our Lady Colts to another victory next week! The tennis team has a busy week, filled with 3 home matches. Come to Cape Fear High School at 4pm to watch them go against Purnell Swett on Monday, September 22nd. The Colts will then battle it out against the Grays Creek Bears on Wednesday, September 24th to find out who will break the tie at court two during the doubles match. Game three will take place on Thursday, September 25th where the Colts will take on Clinton High School.
