Running into the new school year, we have Keziah Chambers, a junior here at Cape Fear High School. Keziah isn’t just participating in sports, but dominating and setting new records for herself all while leaving her mark at Cape Fear. Keziah is not only an outstanding athlete, but an extremely hard working individual. Cape Fear News Network is proud to name her this week’s Athlete of the Week.
As a military child, Keziah has experienced the unique lifestyle of frequent moves. Even with living in multiple states, she carries her unique personality and perspective everywhere she goes. Chambers has lived all over the country, including Kansas, Maryland, Virginia, and now North Carolina. Each location has shaped her, offering diverse experiences and perspectives.
“Keziah has a great personality, she is very outgoing and is someone anyone can get along with. She is also a great runner, always supporting the entire team with her positivity,”says teammate Amelia Osornio.
Keziah’s dedication goes beyond the track, as she prioritizes hard work in the classroom and through her studies, showing that true champions excel in all areas. She’s drawn to Cape Fear’s Future Farmers of America program (FFA), as the hands-on connection with nature speaks to her.
“I’m very interested in joining FFA because it gives me the opportunity to experience something new about animals and agriculture,” said Chambers.
During her free time Keziah loves to bake. Not only does she follow traditional recipes, but she loves to experiment with new flavors and create her own signature dishes.Baking is Keziah’s way of relaxing and unwinding in order to shake off the stress of the school day and the pressure of competition.
“With baking I always really enjoyed it growing up,” she said. “Baking has always given me a sense of doing something for my family or doing something really nice for a friend.”
Running has always been Keziah’s passion, but she loves to make time to focus on herself and try new hobbies. She is always up for a challenge and is currently learning how to play the harmonica and juggle. Chambers has such a lively spirit and showcases her determination when trying new things
“She’s very motivated, and really uplifting to be around,” says Keziah’s friend. Keira Penebacker.
On meet days, Chambers has a specific routine that she must follow to make sure she is prepared mentally and able to have a good mindset to dominate the course. Keziah believes that it is crucial to her performance to wear a specific pair of socks every meet and to listen to Lorde to get into the zone. She uses music to focus and to motivate herself.
Keziah’s dad has always been a huge inspiration to her. She always admired his morals, attitude, and strong faith. He has always pushed her to be her best self and to grow in her faith. Keziah’s faith plays a huge role in her life; Not only does it guide her decisions, but it gives her strength to be able to face challenges that are put upon her. Her faith gives her this constant feeling of motivation to keep going.
“Growing up my stepdad has always been my biggest supporter whether that be school, sports, or helping me think something through. He taught me that as long as your heart is in what you do you will always succeed and I carry that philosophy around with me daily especially on meets..” Says, Keziah
With the encouragement from her friends Amelia Osornio, Ana Marie, and Venna Cocker, Keziah has set ambitious goals for the season. She is determined to improve her skills and achieve personal records in every competition. Not only is she wanting improvement and new records for herself, she is her team’s biggest supporter. She wants success all across the board for everyone.
Chambers is praised for her leadership and team spirit, noting how she pushes her teammates to be the very best version of themselves.
“I think Keziah is such a cheerful person. She brings so much light and energy to the team, and she’s very supportive of everybody around her. She is everyone’s biggest cheerleader,” said Venna.
Chambers has already set ambitious expectations for herself for running. She is determined to not only get her 5k time down to 20 minutes, but also achieve all A’s this year, prioritizing her academics while also remaining an outstanding athlete.
“Keziah is a hard worker, a great person and an even better friend. She pushes me to be the best version of myself everyday,” says Chris Shick.
Keziah Chamber’s dedication, teamwork, and outstanding performance both on and off the field truly sets her apart. We’re excited to see what she accomplishes next and wish her the best of luck. Cape Fear is lucky to have her as an athlete, student, and friend. Congratulations on being named this week’s Athlete of the Week!
