Yesterday the Cape Fear soccer teams took on arch rivals Terry Sanford in Colt Country. These two matches would live up to the expectation of such a big rivalry game.

The JV Colts played yet another great game, taking control of both halves on both sides of the pitch. They finished the first half with 4 amazing goals, making the score 4-0 at the half.

The Colts didn’t let up in the second half, proceeding to put 3 more goals in the back of the net, with a final score being a 7-0 shut out.

The Terry Sanfrod and Cape Fear rivalry has been a historic rivalry in the Fayetteville, NC area. The rivalry has been given the name “Battle of the Blues” and always produces great games in all sports. Yesterday’s soccer game was no different.

The Colts would have an unlucky start with an early red card in the first half and would have to play with 10 men the rest of the game. It would be back and forth between the teams in the first half with good opportunities on both sides of the pitch but no one was able to capitalize, the score was 0-0 at halftime.

Terry Sanford started off strong in the second half, a curled shot into the top corner from the opponents would put Terry Sanford up 1-0 with 30 minutes left to play. As usual, the Colts wouldn’t back down from a fight and even though they were playing a man down they still kept creating chances. This would be seen when the boys were given a penalty kick (PK) to have a chance to tie it up. Captain Zack Beal didn’t have to think twice and tricked the keeper into diving the wrong direction as he placed the ball the other way to tie the game up 1-1.

The boys would have more chances but the whistle for the 80 minutes blew and the score was 1-1. The Colts would have 20 more minutes split into 2 halves to try to find the winner. The first 10 minutes were filled with great chances but still no goal. It was all left to the final 10 minutes to walk away with the win.

Senior Gage Mosley was ready for the task as he scored the game winner with seven minutes left on the clock. The entire team ran to the corner flag as they all knew what a big game this was. This was Mosley’s first goal of the season and it was such an important one.

“I just did what had to be done,”  stated Senior Gage Mosley.
