Here at Cape Fear High School we are blessed with some of the best teachers and staff in the county. This week, the students of CFHS have chosen Angelica Zeta as teacher of the week! Cape Fear is so lucky to have her as a leader in the classroom.

Mrs. Zeta attended college at Holy Cross of Davao College where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education Majoring in English in 2003 and her Master of Arts in Education where she majored in English Language Teaching in 2013. She currently teaches English 3 and 4.

“It was my choice to take up English in college because I find it interesting at the same time teaching Language and Literature and helping my students develop their communication skills. Literature most especially, encourages students to build their critical thinking skills because it lets them make interpretations and analyses of concepts from a reading text,” says Mrs. Zeta.

Mrs. Zeta grew up in Davao City, Philippines with her parents and 5 other siblings. Her life growing up was very simple yet happy. She has 3 kids, and back in the Philippines has dogs and a cat.

Outside of school, Mrs. Zeta cherishes traveling with her family and friends. It relieves stress and refreshes their minds every time they travel. Mrs. Zeta considers it to be a good way of building connection with their newly found friends here! Traveling gives Mrs. Zeta and her family a new perspective on life, especially for her children.

“Experiences we gain in every place we visit, leaves a lasting memory to us, especially to our kids,” says Mrs. Zeta.

This is Mrs. Zetas’ first year teaching here at Cape Fear High, but in the Philippines she was able to teach English to High School students for 21 years. Teaching is not new to her anymore, but with the new environment and new set of students Mrs. Zeta has now, she is slowly adapting to the new culture and place she is in.

Teaching was not Mrs. Zetas’ first choice, she actually wanted to be a medical doctor. It was her mother who influenced her decision to take up Education in College. Though it wasn’t her first choice, when Mrs Zeta started teaching in 2003 she learned how to love and embrace her profession.

Mrs. Zeta has many things she loves about teaching her students. She loves that she is able to build a community within her classroom. The best part about creating a community within her classroom is that she gets to know a student on a deeper level by learning about their personal experiences, future plans, hearing stories about their families, and simply just learning about their interests. Mrs. Zeta is thankful to be able to connect with her students in the classroom. These are the core memories that will forever be engraved into her heart and mind.

“Mrs Zeta is a great teacher. She’s patient with all of her students and takes time to get to know us individually,” says English 3 student Saylor Drose.

We are beyond grateful for Mrs. Zeta, and hope she continues her teaching career with us at Cape Fear High School. She is making learning enjoyable for many. The staff and students greatly appreciate her!
