Yesterday our Cape Fear Colts took on the Terry Sanford Bulldogs for the second time this season in the biggest rivalry game in the county.
The JV Colts took on the Bulldogs for the second time this season for what would be a very physical matchup.
The Colts started off the half in control, taking several shots early in the half, but couldn’t execute on these chances. The Colts managed to put 3 goals past the keeper late into the first half, making the halftime score 3-0.
The Colts continued with momentum in the second half, putting in 1 more goal to extend their lead to 4-0.
Sophomore Chase Nolan gave the assist in the second half to extend their lead, and helped the Colts throughout the second half on defense.
“I felt excited to get my first assist of the season and hopefully I’ll be able to replicate this performance next week for our last two games,” said Nolan.
The Colts shut down the Bulldogs for the remainder of the half, once again walking away with a clean sheet win.
The varsity boys were ready for this historic school rivalry matchup given the name; “Battle of the Blues”.
Still struggling with injuries, our Colts were ready to hand the Bulldogs yet another loss.
The Colts took the lead early with a header across the goal by senior Zack Beard being finished by senior Gage Mosley.
“I had a pretty good start of the season, I then had a rough middle patch of games but I am happy that I have been able to regain my form and provide for the team,” stated Beard.
The Bulldogs managed to find a goal late in the first half to make the score 1-1 at the whistle.
The Colts would not allow for their goal to go undefeated in the conference be stopped by the school rivals. This kind of fight comes from deep within Colts’ hearts. This was demonstrated as captain Zack Beal scored twice. He headed one into the back of the net early into the second half. Beal would then perfectly place his penalty into the bottom right corner for his second.
The Bulldogs scored once more in the second half but it ended up meaning nothing as the full time whistle blew. The final score was 3-2 as our Colts secured their 9th conference win of the season. This makes their record 9-0 in the conference as they have one conference game left to play.
Make sure to come out and support our Colts on Monday, October 27th as they play Scotland in Colt Country.
