On Tuesday October 21st the girls golf team traveled to Bentwinds Country Club to play in the NCHSAA Women’s 7A East Regionals.

Freshman Sarah Eavenson led the Colts with a 98, followed by Holli Bunce, a Sophomore with a 103, Junior Saylor Drose with a 111 and Laloni Pyles, a Freshman with a 113.

Together the Lady Colts finished with a team score of 312. The girls placed 6th overall, a solid score for the team, but not good enough to advance to the state tournament as a team. This ultimately eliminated them from competition.

Freshman Sarah Eavenson has consistently performed at a stellar level throughout her first year on the team. She has been a huge impact and kept pushing the girls to do their absolute best.

“On Tuesday we had a long hard fought day with the course but I’m so proud of how much effort we all put in. And I couldn’t have done anything without my teammates and coaches!  The scores did not go in our favor but I’m so proud of all of us. I am gonna miss this season but this season is always gonna be bittersweet to me and I am gonna miss the seniors so much. But I am looking forward to next season,” said Eavenson.

Sophomore Holli Bunce has improved since last season. Each match she has a drive to do better than the last. She has truly made her way up on the team. The Colts can’t wait to see how she impacts the team next season!

“We gave regionals everything [we had], we played well as a group and tried our best to push ourselves. I am very thankful and appreciative that I got this chance to play at Bentwinds although it was a very hard course. It was a beautiful golf course. And was overall just such a great experience. I can’t wait to go back next year as a junior,” said Bunce.

It’s sad to see this season come to an end for these girls, but we’re all excited to see what next year has in store for the team.

Congratulations to Cape Fear Girls Golf, we’re extremely proud of the whole team and the progress they have made. We can’t wait to see what else these ladies accomplish!
