On Saturday October 25th, the Cape Fear Colts ran at Wake Med Soccer Complex for the first ever 7A East Regionals. This was the last race of the season for most of the runners. This was a challenging course, but because the Colts have run this course before for the Adidas Invitational, it gave them the experience they needed to persevere. It was such a fantastic way for the Colts to close out the season.

“Our boys stepped up at regionals, placing 10th out of 20 teams with two advancing to states and multiple personal records (PRs) across the board. It’s a testament to how far this group has come and how hard they’ve worked all season,” said Coach Jackie Demchock.
The boys finished 10th overall out of 20 teams. The team had their top 7 runners with 2 advancing to the State Championships. Chris Shick was first for the Colts placing 17th with a time of 17:09.06 and will be advancing to states. Not even a second later Collin Shick finished placing 18th with a time of 17:09.33. Just like his brother he too will be going to states. Kayden Giles was next placing 47th with a time of 18:11.The Colts couldn’t have asked for a better performance from all of their boys. They have worked so hard for this moment and made sure to push through til the end.
“The boys ran really well as a team, many of them sticking together and using each other to push themselves to run their best time on the course. Our placement as a team has only gone up since I’ve been here. I’m also excited to be able to run at the state championship this weekend with Collin. We talked over our race plan with coaches and performed it perfectly,” said Chris.

“The girls wrapped up their season with a strong effort at regionals, finishing 10th out of 20 teams. Several runners set new personal bests, showing how much growth and determination this group has shown all season,” said Coach.

The girls finished 10th out of 12 teams, the team also had their top 7 runners. Keziah Chambers was the first to finish for the Colts placing 31st with a time of 21:56. Amelia Osornio followed soon after placing 47th with a time of 22:46. Shaddai Martell was next, placing 64th with a time of 24:31. This was a great race with all 3 girls breaking their PRs . The girls overall did such a great job, with all of them ending their season in a great way.
“I’m so excited that I finally went sub 22, but it was frustrating that I was only 3 seconds away from states. I’m extremely grateful that I got to spend my first cross country season with such positive girls and it’s really sad seeing our seniors go away but I know that they have much more ahead of them,” said Kezhiah.
This was an impressive showing at regionals with many of our runners getting PR’s. With regionals now behind them, The Colts walk away proud of their hard work and determination through the entire season, proving their dedication and team spirit. The Colts now set their sights on the state meet ready to take on the challenge. The Colts will be at the Ivey Redmon Sports Complex in Kernersville this Saturday, starting at 9:40am. This will be a great competitive meet to come out and watch your Colts take on States.
