On Monday, October 27th, the Colts played Scotland Highschool at home for the final conference game of the season. Despite the rain the Colts had a great senior night. Both soccer teams took the field by a storm and went out to fight for the win.
Sadly it was the last game of the season for the JV Colts. This was the second time this season that the Colts have taken on the Scots and they were determined to secure another win.
The Colts came in dominating like usual and they were able to capitalize on a shot opportunity to put them up 1-0 going into halftime.
Going into the second half Cape Fear had the lead, but they weren’t going to let up anytime soon. Despite this lead the Scots were able to put the ball past the keeper late into the second half causing the game to become tied up with 12 minutes remaining.
With 10 minutes left sophomore Cameron Hall was given a penalty kick (PK) opportunity to give the Colts the lead back which would now put them up 2-1.
“I was grateful for the opportunity to get this goal to help us take the lead, I had many chances throughout the season but I was only able to capitalize on a few, I was very excited to be able to end this season on a good note,” stated Hall.
The Colts continued to fight hard, and with just a few minutes remaining the Scots scored an own goal to put Cape Fear up 3-1. This completed a perfect sweep of the conference for the Colts to finish off their regular season.
The win bumps the Colts’ final record to 12-3, which is a huge improvement from last season.
Despite their rough start to the season the Colts worked hard and were able to finish the season on a 9 game win streak.
The Varsity Colts were ready to get a senior night win to secure their first undefeated regular season conference championship in Cape Fear history.
The Colts started the first half strong like they always do, with two goals by team captain and senior, Zack Beal.

Just before the halftime whistle blew, the Colts were awarded a penalty kick. The team took this chance to let senior goalkeeper Brady Kennedy have a chance to score. Kennedy knew an opportunity like this does not come very often for a keeper, so he took his chance to score by sending the keeper the wrong way and powering the ball into the opposite corner.
The Colts started the second half with a 3-0 lead. They did not look back from there. The team was hungry for more as Zack Beal would find the back of the net yet again to get the first hattrick (3 goals in one game) of the season. Junior Davis Spruill and Senior Franncisco Garcia Rodriguez would also find the back of the net to make the score 6-0 at fulltime.
“I was honored that I got the opportunity to go up top and score 3 times,” stated Beal. “I am very confident that we can make a deep run in the playoffs”
Once the clock ran out, the Colts were able to celebrate their first undefeated conference schedule in school history. What a day it was for the seniors, as after the game, the 10 seniors were celebrated for their contributions to the team over the past four years.
