On Thursday December 4th, the Cape Fear Colts swim team had their second meet of the season at Fayetteville State University. The Colts once again dominated the competition. This meet provided a great chance for the Colts to try new things in the water. With a couple meets ahead before the conference meet, we can’t wait to see the Colts continue to progress throughout the season.

“We are off to a great start this season, so it’s important that we keep pushing to improve so we can be prepared for the conference championship and regionals,” said Coach Woolard.

In event 3 and 4, the girls and boys 200-yard freestyle, the girls team secured the top spots with Lainey Williams placing 1st with a time of 2:37 and soon after Amelia Osornio placed 2nd with a time of 2:46. In the boys 200 Luke Bailey got 1st with a 2:36 for the 2nd week in a row. Aiden Hale followed shortly after placing 4th with a time of 2:51. This was a great way for the Colts to add points to their score, helping them secure the top spot.

“Since I won last week I was in the mindset to win this time, I pushed myself while also pacing myself for this 200. I was focused on keeping my lead the entire time which took a lot of effort but I tried my hardest and managed to keep my 1st place,” said Luke.

Event 6 was the boys 200-yard IM; the Colts had 2 swimmers in this event. Nick Serbio finished 1st with a time of 2:44 beating the 2nd place swimmer by 20 seconds. Landon Anderson followed shortly after placing 3rd with a time of 3:13. This is such a difficult event and our boys managed to push forward and finish strong.

In event 11, the girls 100-yard freestyle, the girls secured the top spot with Lainey Williams placing 1st with a time of 1:19. Dani Fick finished next, coming in 2nd with a time of 1:37. These girls scored the team 37 points giving the Colts the upper hand.

In event 23, the girls 400 yard relay, the girls once again took home another win. The relay consisted of Amelia Osornio, Dani Fick, Lainey Williams, and Anamarie Brenes. The girls finished in a time of 4:48. The Colts got the lead early and came out on top beating them by 1:15. This was the best way the Colts could end the meet.

“The season so far is going extremely well. All the girls are doing great and getting 1st in their individual events. We won the last 2 meets and hopefully were going to win the conference. I couldn’t have picked a better team to be a part of this year,” said Lainey.

The girls team continued their win streak ending the meet with a total of 383 points and placed 1st. The boys had a total of 271 points and finished 2nd, they fell just short of 1st but will be back next week to take another go at 1st place. The meet ended with a combined score of 676 putting the team 1st overall. The Colts are continuing to put in the hard work ensuring they come out on top at the conference meet. The next meet will be held at Fayetteville State University on Thursday, December 11th at 6pm. Come show your swimming Colts some love!
