It has been said that all good things must come to an end. And on November 21st, we came to the end of the road for the 2025 Football Season. This season has been full of highs and lows, wins, losses, history making games, but also a season of bonding, brotherhood, and family. The Colts made it to the third round of playoffs, but ultimately getting knocked out by the number 4 seed, Garner High School. Garner did go on to lose out in the playoffs to Cardinal Gibbons, 12-14, showing how fierce the competition was in this division.
Despite the loss, the Colts had a phenomenal season, with accolades and accomplishments that would be remorseful if we did not recognize. The Colts finished Conference play 5-0 and had an overall record of 10-2. Along with finishing with such a successful record, the Colts were awarded the title of Conference Champions for the first time in 9 years after beating Scotland High School 12-7.
From the first kickoff of the season to the last, this team set a standard of excellence that they exemplified throughout the season. The hard work from this team truly paid off as many players were awarded first or second team All Conference. 1st Team All Conference Offense consisted of Luke Clevidene, Tai Phillips, Geronimo Sanchez, Anthony Carroway, and Landon Underwood; 1st Team All Conference Defense consisted of Deante Hargrove, Aydin Leonard, Darren Logan, and Dacori Davis; lastly, on 1st Team All Conference Special Teams was Francisco Garcia-Rodriguez and Brandon Patton. Chosen Wynn, Markel Hurley, and Marcelous Freeman were also recognized for making 2nd Team All Conference Offense/Defense.
From day one, Cape Fear Football knew the job that had to be done this season, which was showcased through their relentless effort, commitment, and discipline that was displayed both on and off the field.
The team’s success would not have happened without the top notch coaching staff here at Cape Fear High School. On August 22nd, the first game of the season, Head Coach Jacob Thomas earned his 100th career win at Cape Fear. For the past 13 years Coach Thomas has been paving the way for Cape Fear Football to be so successful and this season definitely demonstrated that. Thomas was also awarded Conference Coach of the Year after such a successful playoff run and season. Through every win and loss he has pushed the program to grow and overcome while gaining support from his coaching staff and Colt Country.
These awards and accolades from this season weren’t just individual achievements, but a symbol of the work and commitment that has been achieved this season. This season not only broke records, but set new standards for future Cape Fear Colts to come.
