Cape Fear swim is back in action. The Colts went to Fayetteville State University on Wednesday, January 7th to compete in their first meet of the new year. The Colts competed against Pine Forest, Terry Sanford, Lumberton, Hoke County, St. Pauls, Douglas Byrd, and E.E. Smith for an exciting meet.

Cape Fear had many top performers and athletes place first in their respective events.

The meet started off strong with the girls 200 yard medley relay team finishing first with a time of 2:17. Seniors Amelia Osornio, Dani Fick, Lainey Williams, and Anamarie Brenes worked hard to get the win with a 2 second margin between second place.

Later in the event, sophomore Aiden Hale finished first in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 27.91. Hale beat his competition with 0.5 second margin.

“This is a personal best time for me, it was nice to be able to place first in this event for the first time this season,” stated Hale. “I hope to keep up this form throughout the rest of the season”

Senior Anamarie Brenes finished first in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 6:39. Brenes has been crushing her competition this season in the 500 yard freestyle, this was seen once again as Brenes beat her competition by 15 seconds.

“I want to continue to get first place for the rest of the year,” said Brenes

Senior Lainey Williams has been crushing it in the 100 yard butterfly all season, this was the case once again as she won this event with a comfortable margin of 9 seconds and a time of 1:15.

Finally, Senior Amelia Osornio finished first in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:18. Osornio has been dominating all season in the backstroke and has yet to finish in any position other than first.
