The Cape Fear wrestling team absolutely dominated Grays Creek on Wednesday, January 7th, 2026.
The Colts traveled to Grays Creek High School for their match and quickly got off to a good start with Mason Lipford winning his match by pinning his opponent. They were able to maintain the momentum by winning the next two matches, helping the Colts take a 16-0 lead.
The Bears would try to start a comeback, splitting the next four matches 2-2, with each team earning 12 points.
“It was tough losing as an individual; not getting the outcome I wanted in my match, but the team winning was the result we were striving for overall,” said Junior Kevyn Acosta.
Mac Johnson and Daniel Johnson each won their ensuing match, helping Cape Fear maintain the lead and their composure.
Cape Fear was able to regain the momentum with which they began the match, and won six of the last eight matches. This streak helped them score 34 of the final 43 points.
Overall, Cape Fear showcased its dominance and a roster that has the collective drive to win. Even when tested, the team stayed focused and pulled away and was able to secure the victory, 56-21.
The Colts will travel to Jack Britt High School to compete in the Boneyard Bash starting on Friday. Take ‘em down, Colts!
