The Colts Basketball Team hosted the Overhills Jaguars at home Thursday night. It was a back and forth affair with lead changes, high scores, and a fast pace. The boys fought hard, but ultimately suffered a heartbreaking double overtime 60-63 loss.

The boys went into the game as underdogs after losing the same matchup with the Jags three weeks ago, but the Colts were determined to give them a run for their money this time around.

Cape Fear did just that, as they scrapped and clawed for every possession and loose ball to stay in the game.

The Colts stayed in front for most of the contest. Junior Guard Dy’lan Parker led the team with 23 Points, 8 Rebounds and 4 Steals. Josh Green and Chosen Wynn backed him putting up 12 and 13 points respectively.

“In the first quarter, I feel like I had the hot hand,”  said Parker after the game.

Parker was able to generate most of his points by being aggressive and tough in the paint.

“I was making a lot of tough layups, getting to the rack, drawing fouls, and hitting my free throws,” he said.

The Colt defense was the star of the show Thursday, though. The boys held the Jaguars to under 10 points in three of the four quarters of the contest.

Wynn was the anchor of the defense, leading the team with 12 Rebounds and 4 Steals. Geronimo Sanchez also had 8 Defensive Rebounds and 3 Steals of his own.

The Colts are now on the home stretch of the season and are getting ready for conference play where they’ll be looking to secure a spot in the NCHSAA State Playoffs.

Though this loss is a hard pill to swallow, the Colts have shown several flashes of just how good they can be when playing at the top of their game. They will be looking to show that Friday Jan 9th, at St Pauls in their matchup against the Bulldogs.
