Cape Fear DECA is kicking off their annual Bethesda Easter Basket project, and students are already preparing to make a difference. Each year this project brings classes together to collect items that will be used to create Easter baskets for the elderly community at the Bethesda Health Care Facility in Eastover. With teamwork, school spirit, and generosity, the project has become one of the most meaningful traditions of the spring season.

This year like the years before, Mrs Cox’s classes, as well as DECA members, are helping lead the project. Students are organizing, promoting, and encouraging participation. The goal of this project is very simple. Collect as many Easter basket items as possible to support the Bethesda nursing home and brighten the Easter holiday for those in the home.

The promotion began Thursday, February 10th and will continue until March 17th. During this time, first period classes will compete to see who can collect the most items. The items needed include: Liquid Soap, sugar free candy, small throw blankets, brushes, socks, toothpaste/toothbrushes, plastic Easter baskets, packs of tissues, and body lotion. The class that brings in the most items will be rewarded with an ice cream party encouraging students to participate in this project.

So why make Easter Baskets? The answer is easy, according to Ms. Tammy Cox, a teacher and advisor for Cape Fear’s DECA Club.

“I do it because I love seeing the difference it makes in the kids and seeing them giving back to the community they live in,” said Cox.

In first period classes leadership will play an important role in keeping the momentum strong. A project manager assigned from Mrs. Cox’s classes will help promote the drive and collect donations. Students can stay informed and motivated from start to finish from regular reminders and updates from announcements and updates to help ensure everyone has the chance to participate.

Beyond the competition for the prize, the Bethesda Easter basket project is all about giving back. It highlights the importance of community service, teamwork, and generosity. As Cape Fear DECA begins this year’s collection, students are not only competing for an ice cream party but are working together to make Easter brighter for those in need.
