Cape Fear girls soccer is ready to start back up and they are ready to try to replicate their success from last season. Last year the girls finished with an overall record of 19-5-3 and won the conference with a conference record of 15-2.

The girls made it far in the state playoffs last year, losing to eventual state champions Western Alamance 4-1 in the 3rd round.

This year the Colts are led once again by Head Coach Bryan Pagan, and Assistant Coaches Robert Wright and Derek Roddy.

This year the girls will face the likes of Gray’s Creek, Lumberton, Purnell Swett, Scotland, Terry Sanford in the conference.

A key offensive returner for the Lady Colts this year is sophomore Ava Luchetta, she led the Colts in scoring last season and looks to replicate that again this year.

“I think our team will improve significantly, we have a lot of really good talent on this team from freshmen to seniors, I’m excited for this year,” said Luchetta.

Senior Hannah McGill is yet another key returner, Hannah was a rock in the defense and midfield for the team last year, as well as being tied for second in goals. Hannah is looking to have her most successful season this year as she hopes to end her high school soccer career with some trophies.

“My expectations for the team this year are to do as well as we can and win another conference title, I would also like to see us go deeper in the playoffs this year,” said McGill.

One new addition to the team this year is a foreign exchange student from Latvia, Santa Saripo. According to Coach Pagan, Santa is a force to be reckoned with in the midfield. Santa is very physical and has a very high understanding of the game. She will be a big asset to the team this season.

“I expect first place in the conference, I also expect a deep run in the playoffs. We have a lot of experience returning and a lot of good newcomers.” stated Coach Pagan.

The Lady Colts will play a Jamboree on Saturday, February 21st, in Wilson. The Lady Colts will have their first home game of the season against Pine Forest High School on Wednesday, February 25th. Make sure to go support our girls soccer team as they start off what is bound to be a successful season.
