The Cape Fear softball team finally kicked off their season after being rained out for the last week. The Colts started the week with a home game against North Johnston on Tuesday before traveling to Jack Britt on Wednesday.

Tuesday night, the Colts came out on top with a 7–0 victory over the North Johnston Panthers. Addie Davis and McKinley Kolasa were two big performers for the team.

Kolasa started her sophomore season strong with a blast over the left center field fence for the Colts’ first homer of the season. Kolsa followed that up with two walks. Davis had an impressive night at the plate as well, following Kolasa over the center field fence for another home run, following that with a triple, and one walk.

“We had a great game. The bats were very electric, and props to my catcher behind the plate for being a wall back there. All the work me and the team put in helped us win the game,” said Kolasa.

The Colts also had an outstanding performance on defense, making it through seven innings without committing an error while backing Kolasa in the circle. Kolasa pitched the complete game, striking out nine batters, walking four, and allowing just two hits.

That momentum carried over into Wednesday night as the Colts earned another win, defeating Jack Britt 6–4.

Cape Fear traveled to Jack Britt High School for another non-conference matchup, securing the victory after a competitive game.

The Colts started strong, scoring the first two runs in the second inning and holding the Buccaneers scoreless through the first three innings. In the fourth inning, Jack Britt answered with three runs to take a 3–2 lead. Cape Fear responded quickly, tying the game with a run of their own.

In the sixth inning, the Colts added two more runs to regain the lead. Jack Britt scored once in the bottom of the sixth but couldn’t find another way to score as the Colts held on for the win.

Cape Fear once again played a clean defensive game, finishing with zero errors and making several impressive plays in the field. Kolasa returned to the circle, pitching all seven innings while allowing seven hits and one walk and striking out six.

The Colts also delivered at the plate with several timely hits. Senior Karalina Tomasic had a big night, hitting two doubles into the gap. Another senior, Kayleigh Brewington, also contributed with a double and a single.

“Before the game, I knew I had to lock in for my team and for my mom’s birthday. When I stepped up to the plate, I knew I had to score my teammates. I had full confidence in myself that I could, and that’s exactly what I did,” said Tomasic.

The Colts will finish the week with another away game Friday night at C.B. Aycock. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. Come out and support the Colts as they wrap up their first week of games.
