Our varsity girls soccer team had a week of travel this week with 3 away games.

The Lady Colts started off the week on Monday, March 2nd with an away game against Lee County. This was an even matchup throughout the entire game with both teams creating solid chances.

The Lady Colts scored first, with freshman Kelci Glunt putting the Lady Colts up in the first half. This was a big moment for Kelci as this was her first high school goal. Lee County would later score in the second half to tie up the game. Neither team would find the back of the net for the rest of the game, and the game ended with the score 1-1.

On Tuesday, March 3rd the Lady traveled to Pine Forest. The Lady Colts fought hard but unfortunately lost 1-0.

The Colts then had a day off of this game-filled week as they worked to get their first win of the season.

Then on March 5th, the Lady Colts took a long drive to play at South Brunswick High School. The Lady Colts went into the game with a strong determination to get their first win of the season.

This was evident in the first half with sophomore Ava Luchetta, as she broke away to score a crazy goal from outside of the box. This momentum continued throughout the rest of the game.

“It was a really positive experience since we started off a little rough, we’re definitely in a learning process this year, we have a lot of new girls so it’s going to take a little bit but I think it’s up from here,” said Luchetta. “Losing isn’t something we want to experience, so being able to go into practice and work on what we needed to do really showed on Thursday.”

The Lady Colts’ defense was on point, with the opposing team unable to get past them at all. The defense worked hard and communicated well to help the team get their first clean sheet of the year.

“I think our energy level was a big issue we had earlier in the week, we had better energy this game and were locked in during warm-ups so I think that helped,” said senior defender Kayleigh Jacobs.

The Lady Colts continued this form with our very own foreign exchange student, Santa Saripo scoring a penalty late in the second half to secure their first win of the season with a score of 2-0.

The Lady Colts finished off the week full of away games with 1 win, 1 draw, and one loss. This puts the Lady Colts’ season record at 1-2-1.

Make sure to come out next week as our Lady Colts take on Pinecrest at home next Tuesday, March 10th.
