The Colts carried their momentum from last week into a game that moved them to 3-1 after a double digit 10-0 mercy rule win against the Lumberton Pirates.
This was their first game of conference play this year and making it a high scoring win in enemy territory makes it all the better.
Junior Shortstop Brycen Tally was an all-around beast on the field. Tally led the Colts in the win with a 4 hit, 2 Run, 3 RBI performance at the plate, while also being top 3 on the team in put outs.
Freshman pitcher Jayden Brewington proved why this team trusts him so much with another all-conference type of game, pitching a complete game and only allowing 2 hits.
Those 2 hits last night are the only ones Jayden has given up during the Colts 3 game winning streak meaning he’s been averaging less than 1 hit a game for over a week.
“It feels good honestly; I liked to keep them on the outside and work my way in with some curve balls,” said Brewington.
Brewington credits keeping the ball out of the middle for his success on the night, and he finds a lot of his success attacking the outside edges of the box.
The Colts have now won three in a row and looked to avenge their sole loss on the season last Wednesday night in their rematch against Triton.
The Colts came into this game with a chip on their shoulder with the Hawks ruining their season debut and hopes for an undefeated season.
The Colts showed just how much improved the squad was by beating the Hawks with an impressive 5-0 victory to move to 4-1 on the season.
Junior pitcher Logan Rayburn gave the team everything they needed, only allowing 1 hit throughout the entire game in another impressive pitching performance from the Colt staff..
The Colts were led at the plate by underclassman Tres Daughtery and Jayden Brewington, who combined for five hits against the Hawks.
Daughtry has found his rhythm so far this season as a player the team can constantly look to when setting a tone on and off the plate. He is second on the team in batting average, stolen bases, and doubles.
Daughtry is tied with Chris Serbio for the team lead in on base percentage with an OBP of .588.
“My mentality when stepping on the plate knowing I’m here for a reason,” said Daughtry when asked about keeping his composure at the plate.
Tres is a 3 sport athlete and knows what it’s like to have to help his team as an underclassmen.
“I got good opportunities in football and basketball, and I know I have to step up and be a leader,” said Daughtry on caring things over from other sports.
The Colts have been putting teams on notice with their past couple of wins pushing their streak to 4, and are becoming a force to be reckoned with in 7A Baseball
The Colts have also put themselves in position for a possible deep playoff run. Their performances have pushed them to the Top 25 7A Baseball teams in North Carolina. Don’t be surprised if they can crack the Top 10 soon.
