Last weekend, our Cape Fear varsity girls soccer team traveled to Wilson to play in The Britney Soccer Showcase.
This has been a recurring event for the Colts as they also attended the event last year.
The Lady Colts took on Hunt on Friday, March 13th for the first game of this two game showcase.
The Colts started game strong, controlling possession and playing well. Sophomore Ava Luchetta put the Lady Colts up with a great goal. Ava made a great run taking it past the defense and slotting it into the bottom corner of the goal.
Senior Emma Parson continued to save all of the shots that came her way, leading to her having her second clean sheet of the season. The final score of the game was a 1-0 win for the Lady Colts.
“I think Friday we did really well, especially since we were more connected, everything just felt right,” said Parson. “Saturday we were tired and I think we fell apart a little, but we got a clean sheet in the second half, so that’s good that we bounced back.”
On Saturday, March 14th the Lady Colts played Croatan. This would prove to be a difficult game as Croatan would come off strong.
Croatan scored 3 goals in the first half. The Colts managed to hold off Croatan for the rest of the game, as they allowed no other goals to be scored.
Unfortunately the Colts were held off as well and were unable to score. The final whistle blew, handing the ladies a 3-0 loss.
On a positive note, a big congratulations goes to Ava Luchetta, as she was awarded The Brittany Soccer Showcase Sportsmanship award.

In this week’s action, the team played Jack Britt at home on Wednesday in their last home game before their conference opener next week.
The Cape Fear-Jack Britt rivalry has been an intense one over the past few seasons, with both sides notching wins in extremely competitive matches.
The Buccaneers had a strong first half, scoring one goal, leaving the Colts down 1-0 at the half.
However, the Colts were determined, and Senior Hannah McGill slotted a ball into the bottom corner of the goal after a great service across the face of goal fell right at her feet.
Jack Britt would continue to fight and would end up finding a second goal later in the second half.
The Colts continued to put up a fight until the very end, as evidenced by sophomore Ava Luchetta, who shot the ball from distance with seconds remaining on the clock. Unfortunately the ball hit the outside of the post.
The final whistle blew, and Jack Britt ended up walking away with the 2-1 win.

This was a tough loss for the Colts, but they learned some important lessons and will be ready for their conference opener come Monday, March 23rd at Lumberton.
“I think our connection between our forwards and midfielders has definitely grown from the start of the season, and our talking has gotten a lot better,” said freshman Sophia Hudson.
Make sure to show up and support our Lady Colts as they start off their conference games and look to defend their conference title.
