The Colts started this week in great fashion with an unbelievable 12-2 win over the Grays Creek Bears.
This win pushes their win streak to 9 on the year and is the 5th time the Colts have put up double digits in a game this season, and it’s their 4th double digit win.
This win is also the most meaningful as it was Coach Britt’s 100th career win as the Baseball Coach. Coach Britt was awarded a banner for his incredible coaching career so far.
“That I’m here with the people I’m surrounded by, the assistant coaches, our staff, our previous teams, our current group of guys; I know that wins get attached to my name, but it’s really our win as a whole program,” said Coach Britt.
“This team is such a fun group to be around they really love the game, push each other, and keep each other accountable, were not perfect we still have things to work on but the point is i love being around them because they love the game and each other so much and I’m happy I get to share the win with them,” he continued.
The Colts were led by Brycen Tally, who was awarded the MaxPreps “Player of The Game,” and their outstanding freshman Jayden Brewington, who had a field day on the mound.
Brycen was able to earn his second MaxPreps POG Tuesday with another incredible performance consisting of 2 runs, a stolen base, a putout, and a 2-3 showing at the plate, leading the Colts in hits.
“We played as a team and it showed we have a lot of leadership from our guys, and I’ve been in a slump recently so I decided to go out there and have some fun,” said Tally.
“In my approach I try to stay true to myself and my game and hitting line drives over the 2nd baseman is what did it for me,” he said.
Jayden Brewington had an impressive game, getting an RBI and a run for his team, but he made his real impact on the mound by throwing a NO HITTER while playing all but 1 inning.
“You know you gotta stay calm and not get too hyper; just stay humble and don’t listen to the crowds,” said Brewington when asked what it’s like to play in big games like this one.
This is Jayden’s 3rd no hitter, making it seem easy by making what should be a highly praised performance a once a week thing while only being a freshman.
“I like to early to get ahead and keep them off balance with curve balls in the first pitches,” said Brewington
Though this was a big statement win for the Colts, they couldn’t celebrate quite yet, as they needed to get ready for their game the following day against the Harnett Central Trojans.
The Colts had to head to enemy territory, where they dropped a hard fought 5-10 game against the Trojans. This is the team’s first loss in a month, putting them at 9-2 on the season.
Though the Colts lost, there were still a lot of flashes from their players Wednesday night. Players like Brycen Tally and Davis Spruill had solid games that, win or lose, can’t be overlooked.
Brycen was a tone setter for the Colts from the start, going 2-4 at the plate with 3 RBI’s and hitting the team’s second Home Run of the season. He was responsible for four of the team’s five runs giving them the lead early and keeping them in it later.
Davis Spruill only allowed 1 run through his 3 innings pitched. Davis was able to help the Colts out to an early lead against the Trojans, and he only allowed 3 hits during that period.
The Colts win streak came to an end, though, this week with their loss to the Harnett Central Trojans but were still able to keep good momentum with the win against Gray’s Creek.
Now that the Colts are halfway through the season no game can be taken for granted. They are still 5-0 in Conference and will need to put the loss in the rearview mirror as they look ahead to their Conference game against Grays Creek tonight. Hopefully their effort will push them even closer to the goal of being named Tri-County Conference Champs.
