Dallas Wilson CFNN Resident State Champion
Three Saturdays ago Cape Fear kicked off their season at the ‘Ravens Rumble’ at Ravenscroft High School.
The Colts are going into the season with returning two-time state champion Dallas Wilson and returning a third place finisher Nick Minacapelli, who is currently injured but plans to return soon.
The Colts also return coach and former state champion Heath Wilson and assistant coach Nick Smith.
The Ravens Rumble was a small tournament made up of only nine teams, but this is the normal size of the kick-off tournament for Cape Fear. Cape Fear placed 2nd behind Corinth Holders as a team.
Individually, Cape Fear had three tournament champions. Jack Culbreth (126lbs), Dallas Wilson (152lbs), and Vincent Valentin (195lbs).
Culbreth won three matches, pinning the first opponent in the first period, win by dec. 8-3 in the 2nd match, and a pin in the 2nd period in the finals.
Wilson had a bye in the first round leaving him only 2 matches on the day. Wilson pinned his first opponent, and in the ensuing round recorded a KO in the finals, giving him the win by injury default. His opponent has been discharged from the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
Valentin was also left with only two matches, recording a pin in the first period, then pinning the number 5 ranked wrestler in 4A in the finals in a speedy 30 seconds.
Other Placers: Nathan Veeder (170lbs)- 2nd place
Jaden Paul (182lbs)- 2nd place
Chason Bryant (HWT)- 2nd Place
Aiden Barbour (160lbs)- 4th place
