If you have been under a rock, or just don’t actively use Twitter, you probably have no idea what the “Britney Movement” is about. On the timeline of Britney’s life, the issue started back in 2007 with the odd public breakdowns she experienced. The movement has gained momentum through social media, specifically Twitter and TikTok.
In 2007, Britney Spears found herself in a whirlwind of a highly publicized meltdown. One of the most pivotal points of Britney’s mental health was when she was seen in public with a completely shaved head.

Although the reason for the new hairdo was never revealed, it had a great impact. This wave of shaving her head trended on media outlets for weeks, diving into the “Britney Spears Meltdown,” making her a spectacle of the pop industry.
In 2008, her father was granted conservatorship over Brittney by the courts. Conservatorship is also known as a legal guardianship. It’s purpose is to protect those who are incapable of making decisions, most often in cases of people with mental disabilities and those with dementia.
In short, her father is legally in control of her estate, financial status and personal assets. With this control her father was able to completely be her “guardian” again.
So what’s the issue? Britney hasn’t been in control of her life for 12 years. Financial documents are made evident to the court, for legal reasons. Britney’s estate and fortune is valued at $59 million dollars, in which Britney reaps no benefit because of her father’s conservatorship.
Britney also has two sons aged 14 and 13, but she has no custody of the boys. The issue is that Britney is 38 years old and is currently fighting a battle against the conservatorship.
On August 19th, 2020, the conservatorship was extended to February 1, 2021.

On the surface, the idea of a conservatorship is coherently unusual for someone who hasn’t come forth with mental issues, or isn’t obviously ill. So the internet does what it does best, and formulates its own opinions on the matter.
#1 – Britney is being controlled by her father.
The most believable theory in short, is that Britney is being used by her father, Jamie, for financial gain, and the conservatorship is to use her for profit. It could also be that Britney has actually recovered and that he falsified her mental health to the public. Either way this one creeps me out, and I truly hope that’s not the case.
“I love my daughter, I love all my kids. But this is our business. It’s private,” he stated.
#2 – Britney is doing this for publicity.
Whether we want to admit it or not, this has caused a wave in the media. The constant new details that emerge and ongoing court case, according to some internet theorists, might be the break of Britney’s new comeback.
Regardless of what you believe about the #freebritney movement, at least now you know what conservatorship means! The movement fights for Britney to regain her freedom, and her assets, although it’s hard to truly see what’s going on in the surface of Britney’s mental health and life.

This topic is touchy, and if you’re not involved directly in the situation, it’s hard to give an accurate representation if she is okay or not.
Britney remains positive through it all, this is a recent post she captioned; “I want to inspire people to do the same and just be themselves without pleasing others ….. that’s the key to happiness !!!!!!”
