A fairly new teacher here at Cape Fear High School, Mr. Jarrod Britt has become a huge part of the Cape Fear Community. Head baseball coach and history teacher, Britt has made many connections and relationships with his students and athletes.
Britt is originally from Boardman, NC. He attended high school at West Columbus in Cerro Gordo, NC. He went on to UNC Pembroke where he continued to play football and baseball. He received his undergraduate degree from UNCP and went on to UNCW, where he received his master’s degree. He graduated third in his class and received the NC Teaching Fellows Scholarship to become an educator in NC.
Mr. Britt is currently working on his 12th year as a teacher. Before arriving at Cape Fear, Britt taught at Pine Forest High School for ten years. He is currently in his second year at Cape Fear.
Britt has had a multitude of accomplishments during his career. One of his greatest accomplishments was being selected as the teacher of the year at Pine Forest High School in 2019. Another accomplishment he is proud of is becoming the head baseball coach here at Cape Fear at the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year.
Mr. Britt teaches American History I, American History II, Civics & Economics, and AP US Government and Politics. His goal is to make sure all of his students are working to their fullest potential and learning about events and situations that still affect us in today’s world.
“I love seeing people learn new things and I love helping students achieve goals that they didn’t think were possible,” Mr. Britt stated. Students enjoy Mr. Britt’s class and learning about how past events are still relevant in today’s society.
“My favorite part of teaching is meeting new students and forming lasting relationships with them,” says Britt. Mr. Britt has made lasting friendships during his teaching career and continues to strive to teach his students to the best of his ability.
“Seeing the look of accomplishment on a student’s face when they did something they didn’t think they could is awesome!” Mr. Britt replied. His determination and dedication to make sure his students and athletes are successful shows through every aspect of his personality.
“Hearing from former students about successes they have after they leave high school always makes my day, mainly because they took the time to tell me about those accomplishments and that I get to tell them how proud I am of them.” Britt said.
Outside of the classroom Mr. Britt enjoys spending time with his wife, Hannah, and his three year old son, Cole. When Britt is not on the baseball field, he enjoys going fishing, cooking and baking, and working in his yard.
Mr. Britt always goes above and beyond with everything he does. He is a fantastic role model for not only his students but as well as his athletes. He believes that your education becomes before anything else and it shows.
Britt is also a prime example of how you can still be involved in sports while keeping up your grades. We are so glad that Mr. Britt has chosen to be a part of the Colt family!
