This week’s Student Of The Week is Sarah Black. Sarah is a junior at Cape Fear High School and is involved in Varsity cheer, SGA, Beta Club, and dances. She is also the President of the Junior Class.
Sarah is a very dedicated cheerleader and has been on the team for the past three years. She says it’s given her loads of opportunities. “It’s created a lot of friendships. Hopefully long-lasting.” Some of her found friends include Grace Sherbert, Kerrigan Brown, Kaydin Brown, and Kennedi Brown.
SGA is one activity that’s been a very big milestone for Sarah. Being Junior Class President has been a huge honor for her. “The class is definitely a lot of fun.” she says “We get to visit and help with the EC kids which is a great learning experience.” This also allows her to be involved in many school functions like homecoming, food drives, Senior Citizens Day, etc. “Homecoming is really exciting since we set it all up. We pick the theme, we decorate, all that stuff.”
Sarah is also involved in Beta Club, which allows her to help out in her community. Beta Club is a school club that’s all about giving back to the community. She has been involved in many different service projects throughout her highschool career and will continue to be. “ It teaches me how to be a better person and be more responsible.”
One of her favorite out of school activities is dance. She’s currently a member of The FireHouse: Studio Of Performing Arts run by Toni Brinker. When Sarah was in second grade she decided to start dancing at the new studio in Eastover. Her first dance class was a hip-hop and lyrical beginner class that she fell in love with. Ever since then, she has grown as a dancer and now takes lyrical, ballet, tap, jazz, and clogging. Sarah is on the senior company dance team and has been competing since fourth grade. Clogging is one of her favorite types of dances and this year she will be teaching two beginner clogging classes at the studio. She has built lifelong friendships with many people on her team. Some girls on the team are different ages and go to different schools but they still have great relationships and have for many years.
Sarah Black was an amazing choice for Student Of The Week because of her overall involvement in school and the community. We thank her for her hard work and dedication. Stay tuned for the next Student of the Week article coming next week.
