This week our Lady Colts Varsity Volleyball team walked into Pine Forest for a match. They walked out with a 3-0 victory. The Colts were sharp from the start, pulling out a 25-18 win in the first set. They were even tougher in the second set winning 25-14. The Colts ended the night winning the final set 25- 13.

CFNN had the opportunity to speak to one of the star players after the game, Kaitlyn Keen. She was excited about the win and had an eye on the future.

“My team pushes me not only to be a better player, but a person too,” Keen said. “It’s great being around them.”

When asked how she felt about her team winning the game, she said, “I was very proud of how strong we played today. This just shows how we’re going to be this year. We really showed how unified we are and how we’re working better and better together as each game passes. Our chemistry is amazing.”

Before every match, Keen has a pre-game ritual that she has to perform. She says a quick prayer and thanks God for another great day to play volleyball. This was true for some of the other players as well. She has been doing this since she began playing volleyball in elementary school.

“When I was in the 6th grade, my mom decided to sign me up at the rec center,” says Keen. “At first, I cried when she told me because I didn’t want to do it, but I ended up falling in love with the sport and started to play year round.”

Keen and the rest of the team represented Cape Fear High School very well. They took a major dub against Pine Forest and plan on winning many more this season. We know that next week they will bring home another win against South View. Go Colts!
