Winter sports are upon us, and that means the Colts take to the hardwood for Girls Basketball. The Cape Fear’s Girls have been working hard to make sure they perform their absolute best.
The top returners, Jayda Angel, Teralyn Harris, and Kayia Starling, are the players to beat this year in the United 8 Conference. The Lady Colts also have some promising newcomers, Anijah Jones and Samara Britt coming from cross town rival E.E. Smith.
”I know that this season is going to be a good one for the lady colts.” says senior Natalie Autry. “We have worked hard and pushed each other and have just been getting better as a team.”
Third year Head Coach Brian Graham is excited about the team’s potential. ¨We want to play tough opportunistic defense,” he said. “Push the pace on offense, play in transition as much as possible, and execute in the half-court. I have high expectations for the Lady Colts this season.¨
The team’s main goal is to win the United 8 conference and make the playoffs. With the work and commitment these girls have in store for this year, the girls are poised to take a shot at the title. They are hungry, but humble. They don’t doubt any teams on their schedule.
This year’s motto is “As iron sharpens iron, one woman sharpens another” This motto shows the friendly competition among the girls, always pushing each other to be the best that they can.
Coach Graham, Coach Skelly, and all our Lady Colts are excited to give everyone a great season. These ladies have worked very hard in the preseason and are dedicated to Cape Fear Basketball.
“I want to see my girls compete to the best of their ability,” said Coach Graham. “Demonstrate our core values (compete, commitment, togetherness, discipline, and sacrifice) on and off the court.”
Expectations are high for this group, from the coaching staff to the players. We are excited to watch them compete! It’s going to be a great season and we hope to see you in the stands.
