The Cape Fear Lady Colts have been hard at work this season, with an overall of 9-8. Thursday, our Lady Colts faced off against the Grays Creek Bears and put on an impressive performance, winning 53-13. Throughout the game, the girls kept a strong lead while playing tough defense.
“The main focus was to play better defense going down the stretch, which will aid in preparing for playoffs. I tell the girls, it’s a choice. You have a choice to play better defensively and ultimately, that’s what they did, resulting in a win by 40 points,” said Coach Graham.

Defense has been a focal point for Graham and his team this season, and the results are beginning to show for the Colts. Thursday night, the Colt defense was intense. The team’s movement on the defensive end was quick and decisive. The girls obviously knew exactly where to be and when to be there, resulting in several quick steals and virtually every shot being contested. The Colts were also impressive on the boards, as they out-rebounded the Bears all night.
The Lady Colts scored 35 of their 53 points in the first half. The results show the strength in Colt defense, with only 6 points made by Grays Creek in the first half. “Everyone stepped up and did their job, I feel as though offense and defense executed well,” said point guard Anijah Jones.

Sophomore sensation Jayda Angel was the leading scorer, chipping in 19 points for the Colts. Angel was 2-2 from the 3 point line as well. Hannah Walker and Samara Britt helped out with 8 and 7 points respectively. Overall it was a solid performance for the Colts.
