The Cape Fear Girls Varsity basketball team is putting in the work this season. Securing another win against the Jack Britt Lady Pirates, the Lady Colts are now 7-3 in the United 8 Conference. The Lady Colts are currently on a four game win streak. They have scored an impressive 1100 points collectively this season.
Last Friday, our Lady Colts beat the Lady Buccaneers 67-38. Junior Forward Samara Britt scored 12 points, and Sophomore Guard Kaiya Starling also chipped in a dozen. Sophomore Sensation Jayda Angel led all scorers with 23 points on the contest.
“We feel pretty good about our placement in the conference, we really just go out there with a team mentality. We watch a lot of film and study teams so that we can be prepared and know what we are going to face. Then once we are out there, we just focus on executing what we need to in order to win.” said power forward Samara Britt.
The Cape Fear Lady Colts have grown a very strong bond over the course of the season. “We started off a little rough as we were first getting to know each other, but as time went by I feel as though we started to understand each other and work better together. There was more communication between us and honestly, the connection we have helps us perform better.” says point guard Jayda Angel.
This bond has certainly aided the team’s play of late, as the Colts have been impressive both offensively and defensively. Friday night was no exception, as the Colts took control early and refused to give up the lead with timely scoring and stingy defense.
The girls played well as a unit, demonstrating unselfish passing and solid hustle up and down the court all evening. It seems like they are heating up just in time for the Conference Tournament and the NCHSAA 3A State Playoffs.
