The Cape Fear Men’s Basketball team took a big win against Jack Britt last Friday. After being tied at half, Cape Fear came out hot in the second half and secured the win, beating them 70-63.

The win made it seven in a row for the Colts and 10 of their last 11. This firmly entrenched the Colts in third place in the United 8 Conference.

The win put the Colts at 8-2 in conference play, and 11-6 overall.

Junior Massaun Bryant led all scorers with a whopping 29 points. Bryant was also 5-7 from beyond the arc. Senior Justin Burden was not far behind, contributing 19 points to the Colts’ big win.

“The defense was struggling a little in the first half, but we made some adjustments at halftime and covered better in the paint, and that helped us secure a big win,” said Bryant after the game.

The Colts were back in action again Saturday as they took on Conference Leading 71st High School. Unfortunately, the boys took their first loss after 7 wins in a row.

It was a hard fought game at 71st, which found the Colts struggling in the second half and unable to secure the win.

Senior RJ McDonald led all scorers with 24 points, adding 4 three-pointers in the effort. Justin Burden added 17 to the effort, and Massaun Bryant chipped in another 14.

Unfortunately it wasn’t enough to keep the streak alive.

“71st took the lead early, and we chased them the entire game,” said Bryant. “We fought the entire game to get back in it.”

There is no need for worry though. The Colts have shown what they can do when they play together. They have been competing and beating some of the best teams in the conference.

The Colts had a rough start to the season but have improved and shown that they are one of the better teams in the conference.

The Colts record has also steadily improved. They now sit at 8-3 in the conference and 11-7 overall. They are in sole possession of 3rd place in the U8 with a playoff berth likely. They are hoping to only increase their record as with only three regular season games left.

Cape Fear is playing tonight at home against a promising Southview team. The Colts are a heavy favorite, but they still need your support! Come out and cheer them on as they take on the Tigers!
