The Cape Fear Men’s Basketball team came away with a hard fought win against South View last night. It was a close game all the way up until the last minute, but some quick, timely baskets allowed the Colts to pull away at the end of the game, extending their lead and caging the Tigers with a final score 77- 69.

The Colts started the contest with good intensity, but the Tigers were able to match the boys with some hot shooting on the offensive side of the ball.

The game stayed close throughout the first half, as neither team could put together a run to pull away. Both teams shot well in the opening two quarters, keeping the score knotted and putting the crowd on the edge of their seats.

By halftime the Colts had built a one point lead over the Tigers 33-32. Cape Fear made some adjustments in the locker room during the half, allowing them to keep the lead and continue their defensive pressure.

South View kept the game close going into the final quarter. Some mistakes by the Tigers in the final minutes of the game helped the Colts secure a solid lead and take home the win.

Masaun Bryant led all scorers with a 9 for 12, 26 point night. Jeremiah Melvin, the player of the game, came up big with 17 points on the night. Melvin was 5 for 9 from the floor and 3 of 5 from beyond the arc.

¨We played well and adjusted to how they play,¨ said senior Justin Burden. ¨We struggling in the first half, but come out hot in the second half and got the win¨

Cape Fear is now 9-3 in the United 8 Athletic Conference, putting the Colts in sole possession of third place. After ironing out the kinks from early in the season, the Colts seem to have figured things out, winning 10 of their last 12 games. The boys are shaping up to be one of the better teams in the area.

The Colts will be playing Lumberton this Thursday. They are a very strong offensive team who beat the Colts at the beginning of the season. However, this is not the same Cape Fear squad from early in the season. A win over the Pirates would put the Colts in a tie for second place in the U8 Conference.

The basketball team will need all the support they can as they take on Pirates, So come out and support!
