The Cape Fear Boys and Girls swim teams took to the waters at the 2022 NCHSAA Eastern Regional Championships on February 4th. The Colts continued their winning ways and were impressive in the pool, qualifying 12 swimmers for the state championship.

In the women’s 100 yard backstroke, Mary Catherine Shook came in fourth, and in the men’s 100 yard backstroke, Nick Shook came in fourth. Senior Dylan Sneed also came in fourth in the women’s 100 yard breaststroke. Coming in 5th place in the women’s 400 yard freestyle relay were Lakin Williams, Catherine Sexton, Casey Fitch, and Mary Carherine Shook.
Senior Dylan Sneed, Junior Nick Shook, and Freshmen Mary Catherine Shook all individually qualified for the state championship this year, along with four relay teams consisting of Alex Bridges, Hunter Anderson, Alden Bostic, Lakin Williams, Catherine Sexton and Casey Fitch. These swimmers will travel to Cary this Friday, February 11th, at the Triangle Aquatic Center for the Championship.
Junior Nick Shook has been a big contributor to the Colts’ success this season. “I am really excited to see how states go this year and hopefully I do well,” Shook said. “Overall I had a great swim season.”

Alden Bostic, the lone senior on the championship-bound relay team, has provided mentorship and enthusiasm to the team. “They have worked so hard this season, and have really helped shape the team into what it is today. I’m happy to compete with this group and excited for this Friday.” Bostic said
All of the swimmers on the Cape Fear swim team have contributed greatly into the success they have had this year. Coach Amey Shook had a positive outlook on regionals and the upcoming state meet.
“I am extremely proud of all of the dedication and perseverance these kids have shown this year and it has been a joy to shape these swimmers to become greater this year,” said Coach Shook. Every single swimmer has had a drive to be better, just like the returners. However, the State Championship is going to be highly competitive, and they are ready for the challenge as always.
