The Lady Colts Golf team is looking to capitalize on recent success and drive their way into victory this season. Last Monday afternoon, the Colts started the season strong with their first conference match at Pinecrest country club, facing off with Grays Creek, Lumberton, and Jack Britt.

Senior Hannah Walker led all scorers with a match low of 41. Lexi Perez placed 3rd with a 43, and Hanah Roney finished 4th with a 45. Kate Wilson was on par to finish 8th with a 51, and Alex Serbio rounding out the Colt score with a 52.

“I felt like it was my best match,” Walker said after the round. “I have to give credit to my team for their great sportsmanship on and off the course.”

Hannah has been playing for 3 years. This was a career low score for her, signifying how much time she has dedicated to her game.

“Hannah is always working on her game and trying to improve,” said Golf Coach Todd Edge.  “She is a very determined individual, and once she puts her mind to something she goes for it.”

Walker isn’t planning to play in college but she will never forget her memorable experience on the course and with her team.

Alongside Hannah, Senior Lexi Perez, who has been playing since 9th grade, is determined to help the Colts meet all of their goals this season. Coach Edge and the girls would like to win the conference, make it to regionals, and the state championship.

“All golfers are determined because it’s you against the elements of the course,” explained Edge. This determination can be seen in this experienced golf team. The team looks forward to playing 18 holes next week and finishing with great scores.

Last year, the Colts took home the championship title and are prepared to do it again.

Walker says the team prepares by hitting at the range and working on putting and chipping skills, as well as team bonding to build a strong force in the ladies golf conference. Next week the Colts take on the baywood course and plan to take the win.

“I feel like the hard work we put in during the summer really paid off and helped us come out on top,” said Walker.

The Colts were in action again on Tuesday, September 6th, against Purnell Swett.  They continued to keep their winning streak alive and thriving, with a team score of 266. Lexi Perez won medalist honors with an 85, Hannah Walker finished 2nd with an 89, Kate Wilson 3rd with a 92, Hannah Roney 9th with a 101, Alex Serbio 5th with a 94,, and Gracey Horne with a 113.

Emily Grace and Gracey Horne played their 1st ever high school match and were very prepared and excited to play. They both plan to play more this season and make the top 3 in the conference.

“I might have gotten last place but I certainly exceeded the effort and I’m positive I’ll be making it to regionals.” said EG.

Taking home the Championship title last year really fueled this year’s determination. “We are about even to where we were last year, my goal for the team is to improve 1% everyday.” The girls are back in action Monday at Gates four Golf and Country Club.
