Tuesday evening the Lady Colts bumped up the intensity as they took on the Jack Britt Buccaneers for their fifth United 8 Conference win of the season. The stage was set for a tough match, but the Colts killed it, winning in straight sets, quickly setting the tone for their season. That win left the Colts 1 of 2 teams undefeated in the conference. The Colts are now 8-2 overall. 

Cape Fear took the first set 25-21 after a hard fought battle against the stingy Buccaneers defense. 

The Lady Colts also had a great serving game, racking up 13 points with aces alone.

Hitters Olivia Melvin, Brooke Bombatepe, Laney Talley, and Tabitha Newlin helped lead the team to the victory with their kills. With 42 total kills, they helped pave the way for the win.

“I think I played really well,” said Newlin. “Considering I’m a freshman on varsity, I think I’m fitting in well and coming together with the team.”

Juniors Larkin Baxley and Olivia Melvin led the team in serve receptions, helping keep the ball in the air. 

“I’m very proud of our performance tonight, we really came together and won as a team,” said an excited Coach Kelly Melvin after the match.

The win was a big one for the Colts, considering the hype surrounding Jack Britt this season. Early predictions had the Bucs in the hunt for a U8 Conference Title. 

Teamwork and hard work were key factors in the win. Cape Fear’s team unity was evident in their communication and positivity. Hard work was the icing on the cake in the win.

The win kept the Colts undefeated in United 8 Conference play. They currently  sit atop the the U8 at 5-0.  

Make sure to tune in for the Lady Colts next game as they travel to Hope Mills to take on the South View Tigers in a huge match. The Tigers are currently tied for 2nd in the conference at 4-1. They are 9-1 overall. The teams will serve it up at 7 pm. Make sure to come out and support as they battle one of their rivals!
