On Monday, September 12th at 4:30, the Lady Colts faced off against the Gray’s Creek Bears on their home courts. This match was by no means a “gimme” for the Colts, but they still pulled out a win. The girls grinded out a perfect match score of 9,0. The star player for the match was Brooke Bieniek who dominated on court two winning her match 6,0, 6,0.

“I feel like I won the match by being aggressive and moving the girl around the court,” explained Bieniek.

One of the main reasons this was a tough match was that the ladies had to move players from lower courts up to play higher courts. The Colts still came out on top, winning all six singles and three doubles.

Ansely Thomas, the Colts original court six had to move up and take on the challenge of playing court four.

“I took the advice that Coach Lucas gave me all season and made a few adjustments to compete with the player that I was going against,” said Thomas.

The Colts had players who weren’t originally in the top six but were not far behind play court five and six. On court five, Olivia Arnette won her match 6,1 6,1. On court six was Alex Jones, who won 6,3,6,0

“The girls did a very good job playing up; several players had to play up and make their debut in the top six including Alex Jones and Olivia Arnette. They executed very well against a determined team,” explained Coach Lucas.

The win kept the Colts undefeated in United 8 Conference play at  5-0 and 5-1 overall. The only blemish on the record came in an early season loss to perennial 4A tennis power New Hanover High School out of WIlmington. The season is looking bright for the Colts, who look to continue their dominance in the 3A ranks.
