Do you love Agriculture, and want to learn all about it? Our teacher of the week, Mr. Young, can help!

Mr. Young is an Agriculture teacher here at Cape Fear High who teaches Horticulture along with many other AG classes. Mr. Young is a fun and caring teacher who is very well loved by all here in Colt Country.
Mr. Young is known throughout Cape Fear High as a teacher that loves what he does and loves the kids. He found his love for teaching during his time in high school. He explained how his experiences led to the career path he chose today.
“I always liked my teachers as a student and I was like, I want to be like them one day. I want to be able to change people’s views towards education. When I was a sophomore in high school I took my first AG class and I knew that’s what I wanted to do,” Young said.

Mr. Young went to high school at East Columbus High School in Lake Waccamaw, North Carolina. After high school, Mr. Young furthered his education at the University of Mount Olive, where he graduated with his Bachelor in Science in 2018. Then in 2021, he graduated with his Masters from NC A&T.
This is Mr. Young’s fifth year teaching. In 2018, he was placed at West Brunswick High School. Where he taught Agriscience Applications, Horticulture 1, and Horticulture 2 Turf Management.
Here at Cape Fear High, Mr. Young teaches Horticulture 1 and Agriscience Applications. Next semester, he will teach Horticulture 2 Landscaping and General Horticulture 2.

Mr. Young is also one of the advisors for FFA. He trains students to participate in regional and national conventions, where he helps them to achieve the highest score they can get.
Mr. Young’s favorite part of teaching is watching his students grow and helping them figure out what they want to do with their life.
“It always makes me feel good about myself when I can get them into a career that they want, a career that’s fit for them and then, of course, when they are in contest.” he said, “I like to see how some of the students start off very intimidated by contest and by the time they see all the work that we put forth whenever we go and compete, where we place high. It shows a sense of growth for them from where they started to where they ended.”

Not only does Mr. Young love his Colt Family, he also loves his real family.
“My family is pretty awesome, we all have a good sense of humor. We always put humor into what we do,” Mr. Young explained.
Mr. Young also enjoys cooking and baking. He likes to think he is really good at it.
Mr. Young loves so many things about Cape Fear High, but most of all he loves the students. He loves to make their day a little better and change their views on the way they can learn.

Former Student Sarah Black said, “Mr. Young is one of my favorite teachers. He’s one of those teachers who you know wants you to succeed and will help you do so. I’m on Agronomy, I joined in February and in four months, Mr. Young helped me be the best I could possibly be for the state convention, where I scored very high.”
Mr. Young is an amazing teacher. Every student here at Cape Fear loves him because he’s helped them so much. He’s passionate about what he does and wants the best for his students.
Colt Country loves Mr. Young and we’re so glad to have him a part of our Colt Family.
