We all probably have things that we could be doing right now. I know I could probably be doing Math or Biology, but instead I choose to watch TV or go on TikTok. Time is something we all want and need, but don’t always have. My favorite thing to do is procrastinate, and I know I’m definitely not the only one. I’m going to introduce to you some ways to get things done more efficiently and easily.

1. Figure out what works best for you.

Most people have jobs, sports, chores, etc. to do after school. The first thing to do in order to get work done is find a time and place that works for you. Make sure it’s a time that you won’t rush or stress out. Make sure you are in a place with a calm, quiet environment that won’t distract you.

2. Get the right tools.

Sometimes, we start on something and then halfway through we realize we forgot something, or did it wrong. I recommend investing in a planner or notebook that you’ll use to write things you need to do or get, and then use it as a checklist to get it done. I also advise you to turn your phone and/or TV off so you won’t be tempted to use them.

3. Recognize the consequences.

When you procrastinate, you put more stress on yourself. If you realize that, you’ll be more likely to get things done. Make sure to prioritize your work and other productive activities over pastimes and hobbies. In high school, grades and academics count more than ever, and we need to get things done now before we regret it.

4. Routines and structure.

Use the time you give yourself to make a routine, and stick to it. Get as much as you possibly can done, and then some. Keep yourself on a steady schedule and try to work, even if you’re tired, get it done. No excuses!

5. Free time.

Give yourself a break. We all get stressed out. Make sure that after you’re done with everything, you take time for yourself. Don’t rush through your work, but get it finished and over with. Hang out with people you love, take a nap, go outside, do something you enjoy. And most importantly, have fun!

If you don’t work well with routines or schedules, try to get work done in other classes if your teacher lets you. If you play sports, do it on the bus. Just find out what works best for you and stick with it. I hope this helps!
