Tuesday evening, the Cape Fear Lady Colts took on the Douglas Byrd Eagles for their eleventh United 8 conference game of the season. They won quickly in 3 sets, making them 10-1 in conference play and 13-3 overall.

Yesterday’s game was Senior Night for the Colts, honoring their lone Senior Julia Smith. Julia has been a part of the program since her freshman year, starting her career as a setter and ending it off as a defensive specialist.
“Julia is seriously one of the sweetest and most positive girls i’ve ever met,” said teammate Larkin Baxley. “We are all going to miss her so much next year.”
Back to the game, it kicked off at 6 pm with the Colts taking care of business quickly, winning 25-8 in the first set.
Juniors Olivia Melvin, Brooke Bombatepe, Laney Talley, Illyanna Johnson, and Lilly Rayburn, along with freshman Tabitha Newlin, all contributed to the Colts kills, helping secure the win.
The second set went by swiftly with the Colts winning 25-8.
Juniors Olivia Melvin, Larkin Baxley, and Addie Hudson, along with senior Julia Smith helped the Colts defense with a combined 47 digs and 24 serve receptions.
Overall the Colts had a great match and an amazing senior night. Be sure to tune in Thursday, October 6th at 6pm as the Lady Colts travel to Jack Britt High to take on the Lady Pirates. Make sure to come out and support! It will be a killer game!
