Tuesday night, your Lady Colts took on the South View Tigers at home for their 13th United 8 Conference match of the season. They won in a tight 5 set match, defeating their rivals. This left the Colts 15-3 overall and 12-1 in conference play.
The game began at 6 pm, with the Tigers taking the first 2 sets with scores of 25-16 and 27-25.
The Colts then came back to sweep the Tigers in the last 3 sets, securing the win. The third set ended with a score of 25-19.
Cape Fear’s serving shined throughout the whole match, with Juniors Payton Gunter, Brooke Bombatepe, Larkin Baxley, and Illyanna Johnson bringing in 11 service points each. The team’s serving percentage was 97%, with the Colts only missing 3 serves throughout the 5 sets.
Junior, Olivia Melvin led the Colts with 18 kills. Juniors, Illyanna Johnson and Laney Talley each had 8 kills.
“In the first set I started off shaky, but I found a way to persevere and help my team come away with a win after a 2-0 deficit,” stated an excited Laney Talley.
The Colts took the fourth set with a score of 25-20, and finally took the fifth set 15-12 to take the win.
Junior setters Payton Gunter and Brooke Bombatepe help set the Colts up for the win. Gunter finished the game with 25 assists, 10 digs, and 2 kills, and Bombatepe ending with 18 assists, 13 digs, and 12 kills.
Helping the Colts defense were juniors Lilly Rayburn and Addie Hudson. Rayburn was solid defensively with 7 blocks. Hudson was tough as well with 10 digs.
Overall, the Colts played a great game and are very excited for their next match. Make sure to come out and support them as they play their last regular season game Thursday night at 6 against the Grays Creek Bears, at Grays Creek. It will be a great game!
