It is finally time again! The Grammy nominations are in and it is up to you to decide who should win this amazing achievement. There are ten amazing new artists that are up for the 2023 best new artist them being Anitta, Omar Apollo, DOMi & JD Beck, Muni Long, Samara Joy, Latto, Maneskin, Tobe Nwigwe, Molly Tuttle, and Wet Leg. These talented people have worked very hard to be up for such a high achievement of winning a grammy. The question is who do you believe earns the title? Let’s learn a little bit about each of the 2023 nominees.

Anitta

Anitta was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on March 30th, 1993. She is a Brazilian singer and songwriter. Her 2022 single “Envolver” is her most successful song which became a Guinnesss World Record for being the very first solo Latin artist to reach the top spot on Spotify. She shows her strong Latino heritage throughout all of her albums and songs. She shows really great potential.

Omar Apollo

Omar is a young 25 year old from Hobart, Indiana and is an American singer and songwriter. He does not only sing in English but also in Spanish. He falls under the music genre of R&B/Soul. His breakthrough was back in 2017 when he released a song called “Ugotime” while he was working at a fast food restaurant. In a short four years he has amassed millions and millions of streams and signed a recording deal with Warner Records. This is just the beginning for Omar.

DOMi & JD Beck

DOMi & JD Beck are a jazz duo with Domi Louna being a French keyboardist and JD Beck being an American drummer. These two are very young, Domi being 22 and JD being 19, but they have already accomplished much and have worked with big names such as Bruno Mars and Ariana Grande. This duo originated in Dallas Texas and they met back in the year 2018. They are categorized under the genres jazz, hip hop, drum and bass, and instrumental. 

Muni Long

Muni was born in Vero Beach, Florida and is an American singer and songwriter. She has written songs with many big stars such as Rihanna, Mariah Carey, and Mary J. Blige. Her music falls under the music genres of pop, R&B, and Americana. Her most successful single is “Hrs and Hrs” where it got top 20 on Hot 100. She also received a grammy award nomination through her songwriting work for Back of My Mind by a well known artist H.E.R.

Samara Joy

Samara is from The Bronx in New York and is only 24 years old. Back in 2019 she won the International Jazz Vocal Competition. She was already named Best New Artist by Jazz Times for 2021. If it was not obvious already she falls under the music genre of Jazz. She was born into a musical family so having her career become music as well was something she was destined to do.

Latto

Latto is an American rap artist from Columbus, Ohio. She has made great steps in her career and she is only 23 years old. She is in the music genres of hip hop and pop rap. She made her first big appearance and splash in her career back in 2016 when she was a part of Jermaine Dupri’s reality show The Rap Game and she won the first season. Her highest single to this date is “Big Energy” which hit number three on the Billboard Hot 100. 

Maneskin

Manekin is an Italian rock band that started in Rome, Italy in the year of 2016. The band consists of the vocalist Damiano David, bassist Victoria De Angelis, guitarist Thomas Raggi, and drummer Ethan Torchio. They are under multiple rock genres all including glam, pop, hard, alternative, and funk. This is their very first Grammy nomination.

Tobe Nwigwe

Tobe is from Texas and is an American rapper, singer, and actor. Nwigwe is of Nigerian descent and is from the Igbo ethnic group. He was originally on track being considered for the NFL but a Lisfranc ligament tear gave him no choice but to pursue this different career. His songs are all hip-hop and rap and he also co stars in the Netflix series Mo. His single “Try Jesus” reached number four on the Billboard R&B Digital Song Sales chart.

Molly Tuttle

Molly Tuttle is from Santa Clara, California and has all kinds of talents. She is an American vocalist, songwriter, banjo player, guitarist, recording artist, and teacher in the bluegrass tradition. Her genres of music are bluegrass, americana, and country folk. She started exploring all these skills at just the age of 8 and overtime became a professional. Her most streamed song is “Take the Journey.”

Wet Leg

Wet Leg are a British rock band from the Isle of Wight. This band was founded in the year of 2019 by Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers. Their genres are indie rock, post-punk, indie pop, alternative/indie, and britpop. The members are Rhian Teasdale, Hester Chambers, Henry Holmes, Ellis Durand, and Josh Omead Mobaraki. Their single which sent them sky rocketing towards fame was “Chaise Longue” which got up to three million streams in 2021. They released a self-titled debut album that hit number one on the UK Albums Chart, Australia’s ARIA Albums Chart, and the Irish Albums Chart. 

All these artists are extremely talented and have worked very hard to get to this wonderful achievement of being nominated for a Grammy. Only one of them can take this Grammy home and receive this huge milestone in their career. Go and check each one of these people out and decide for yourself who deserves to receive this music award.
