Fall sports at Cape Fear have been a great success this year, with all teams making the playoffs for the second year in a row. We are excited for each of these teams, as they have shown their hard work and determination throughout the summer and all season long.
Beginning with girls tennis, this team has made history once again! They didn’t just win a state championship, they are now the only team in school history to repeat and defend a state title. This team was led by Senior Brooke Bienek and Junior Anna Piland who also placed runner up in doubles. We are extremely proud of them and excited that Anna will be back next year to try for another historical run.
Men’s soccer was also successful this year. They finished the season 16-8-1 and went 13-2 in conference. They had a great season with many big wins against great teams. They had an 8 game winning streak at one point, which helped them to finish strong. They made their third consecutive trip to the playoffs, capping off a solid season.
Football had a great season once again. It was a very hard fought season finishing off the year 7-4, but the record does not reflect how good the team was. They had some huge wins this season and played solid all year long on both sides of the ball. The team dealt with injuries all year long and lost to a very tough opponent in J.H. Rose in the first round of the state playoffs but the boys had another successful season nonetheless.
Girls Volleyball was just two wins shy of their first trip to the state championship. They advanced to the fourth round of the state playoffs for the first time ever. This young team proved that they were a problem by defeating Grays Creek and South View twice and winning the conference championship. The team showed grit and effort all year long and had a huge season overall.
Girls Golf finished the year undefeated through conference play and finished 2nd in the regional. Senior Lexi Perez led the way with a 79 in the state qualifier, followed by Kate Wilson and Alex Serbio’s 91. They made the State Championship for the 4th year in a row and placed 7th. Another very successful season for girls golf and will be back to states again.
The Cross Country team had individual runners to make the playoffs such as Taylor Woodard, Maxwell Cabrera, William Barnoski, and Benjamin Castro Locklear. No athletes made the State Championship but overall had a great year.
Overall you could say the Fall sports as a whole for Cape Fear was a great success. Each team played their hardest and plan to come back next year even stronger.
