The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special was released on Disney+ on November 25, 2022, just in time for the holidays. This holiday special is one of the first for the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) and it does not disappoint the fans, the special got a 8.5/10 rating on rotten tomatoes.

Some people like to think that Hawkeye was the first Christmas installation for the MCU, which is somewhat true. I think that Hawkeye had more of a setting and the atmosphere of the holidays, and the story has nothing to do with the holidays. This Guardians of the Galaxy special is purely centered around the holidays.

This special is obviously centered around the Guardians of the Galaxy, but specifically around Drax and Mantis. Once Drax and Mantis have had the chance to learn about Christmas, they want to get Peter Quill the greatest present ever. Of course they choose to get Peter a human, more specifically Kevin Bacon. Kevin Bacon is one of Peter’s heroes, and he is always talking about him.

A thing I loved about this special was the band Old 97’s doing a cameo. We get to see them in full alien prosthetics, and it’s really fun to watch. We get to catch up with the Guardians after End Game and Thor: Love and Thunder, and see some things that have changed with them during the time we haven’t seen them. We also meet so many new and fun characters that have joined the guardians. And we get to see the changing relations between the existing guardians.

This Special was really funny and wholesome. This is the perfect thing to watch during holidays with your family if you are a fan of Marvel or the Guardians of the Galaxy. The ending had me in tears as we learned something new and important between Peter and Mantis. If you have Disney + this is something you should definitely should watch, especially before we watch Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 on May 5, 2023.
