On Thursday, December 1, The Cape Fear Swim Team continued their winning streak, competing at Fayetteville State University against Pine Forest, Grays Creek, Terry Sandford, Jack Britt, Lumberton, Douglas Byrd, EE Smith, and Purnell Swett. The Colts fought their hardest, and it all paid off, as they won overall with a total of 683.5 points. The Girls came in strong and won with 368 points, and the boys came in second with 315.50 points.
“The girls have improved a lot both physically and with the team aspect of swimming. My expectations are that our girls will win the conference and everyone on the team will be able to make it to regionals because it’s a good experience to have,” said Junior Casey Fitch.
The Lady Colts got their first victory of the meet by winning the 200 yard medley relay. The relay team consisted of Sophomore Mary Catherine Shook, Senior Lily Brinker, Senior Tanya Chavez, and Sophomore Grace Sherbert. The girls secured the win with a time of 2:14.92.
The boys 200 yard medley relay came in strong at 2nd place with a time 2:01.
Going into the individual races, Junior Casey Fitch secured a victory for the Colts winning the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 2:21.73.
Pulling yet another triumph in the Boys 50 Yard Freestyle, Senior Nicholas Shook came in strong with a time of 24.09 seconds. Also in the Girls 100 yard Freestyle, Sophomore Mary Catherine Shook, came in 1st with a time of 1:02.15.

Junior Casey Fitch continued her winning streak with another victory in the Girls 500 Yard Freestyle, with a time of 6:46.87. Sophomore Mary Catherine Shook, Senior Lily Brinker, Junior Casey Fitch, and Sophomore Grace Sherbert all competed in the Girls 200 Yard Freestyle Relay. They wrapped up the victory with a time of 2:00.09.
In the Girls and Boys 100 Yard Backstroke, the Shook siblings, Mary Catherine and Nicolas Shook, finished up the individual events with a huge victory in both categories. Mary Catherine finished with a time of 1:09.95, and Nicolas Shook with a time of 1:00.35.
The Cape Fear Colts finished up the meet by winning the Girls 400 Yard Freestyle Relay. Senior Tanya Chavez, Sophomore Andi Brinker, Freshman Lainey Williams, and Freshman Brenes Anamarie all pushed through the last events and succeeded with a victory.
“Everyone on the team is very encouraging and helpful, they give great advice on how to improve. I’ve definitely gotten faster and I’m a lot stronger.” said new swimmer Freshman Lainey Williams.
The Cape Fear Colts hope to continue their winning streak at the next meet on December 8, at Fayetteville State University.
